SEASON REPORT

We can hear the sleigh bells ringing however in comparison to Santa’s sack being full to the brim our sheds are almost empty!

We’ve cut around 10,500 tonne of seed and pretty much have next to nothing left to dispatch. We’re pleased to advise that the seed has been of exceptional quality for all our growers and we are tracking towards 15,000 tonne of seed this year, a 50% increase from this time last year. No wonder Santa is exhausted!

It’s now we’d like to take the time to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, we hope you all enjoy the festivities that come your way.

Best wishes, Andrew, Pam, Conor, Tanya, and the team at Cherry Hill Coolstores.

FORGET EURO DISNEY. WE WENT TO POTATO EUROPE 2018!

We were lucky enough to experience Europe’s largest collection of live machinery demonstrations in the potato sector at the Potato Europe event for 2018.

Andrew and Conor were invited to Europe by HZPC Australia representative, Andrew Vandenberg, along with other industry representatives including Les Murdoch. They attended the event in mid-September in Rittergut Bockerode – which is near Hanover, Germany.

200 exhibitors from Germany and abroad were exhibiting at the event. On show was the latest technology and a large range of varieties and extensive know-how, covering all aspects of successful potato production.

While at the event we purchased a new 2-tonne bin tipper, having looked at track and trace bin systems and the optical sorters it’s going to be amazing – the future is looking bright for 2019.

We can’t wait to share more with you in the new year.

For anyone interested the next Potato Europe: 4 and 5 September 2019 in Kain/Tournai (Belgium), organized by FEDAGRIM.

A SLICE OF LIFE AT CHERRY HILL

Introducing our first ever apprentice – Jordan Stephens.

In April this year, we were lucky enough to have Jordan Stephens join us, on a casual basis, to help out around the business. It wasn’t long before ‘Stevo’ (as he is known to mates) was soon impressing us with his welding skills and engineering knowledge, so we offered him an apprenticeship.

Jordan is Cherry Hill’s very first apprentice and will be spending the next four years under Darren Nicholls’ wing, training to be a Fitter and Turner and looking after the machine maintenance at Cherry Hill. He will be working full-time, Monday to Friday.

Originally from Mildura and growing up on an asparagus farm, he has roots with the land (yes, pun intended). Jordan had trained as a butcher and worked in this trade for four and half years. He then worked at a company engineering robots to build and supply rehab equipment to hospitals.

Growing up, Jordan wanted to be a diesel mechanic and now he’s reconnecting with this passion.

Living locally in Devonport, weekends are currently spent making new friends or travelling interstate to visit old ones. Jordan enjoys riding motorcycles and participated in Enduro Racing prior to settling in Tasmania.

We are excited to see Jordan grow into his new role and are looking forward to his fresh ideas and zest for life, making a positive difference at Cherry Hill Coolstores.

QUALITY CONTROLS CALLS FOR A VISIT TO CHINA

During November, Conor and Andrew took a quick trip to China where they mixed a bit of business with some pleasure (as you will see from the wonderful photos)! The inner ventilation system for our new 2-tonne bins are being built in China, and this visit was to quality control these prior to them being shipped to Australia.

The bins themselves are being built locally and we have 600 bins already delivered. We now await another 1400 units, which are in transit and will be ready for the 2019 season.

Pictured below (L-R / Top-Bottom): Andrew, Esther (our host) and Conor, the ventilation system (the business) and the Great Wall of China (the pleasure!) including a close-up of Andrew at the wall.

TESTIMONIAL … “A BETTER PRODUCT FOR US”

“We’ve been dealing with Cherry Hill Coolstores for 20 years or more and are really impressed with their communication skills, they’re excellent. As a farmer and contractor, we often need to talk to them two or three times a day and their correspondence is always great, they really listen to our concerns. This is very important to our business.

Over recent years Cherry Hill has been monitoring their coolstores and have improved the C02 levels which have resulted in a better product for us as end users. We are seeing a massive emergence of potato that is a lot more consistent”

Richard Hardstaff | Owner Greenfield.
